Whoa…! Where’d October go?

As Stan Chee points out we have been terribly quiet out here in blogland the last couple of weeks. Not for lack of being incredibly busy at doing the stuff we do best but some of it certainly deserves mention so here follows a quick update…

Does Perez Hilton Matter?

Seriously, what do you make of Perez Hilton? Is he a credit to the blogging community or does he damage what you’re looking to achieve?

There’s no doubt that Perez is phenomenally successful. He’s syndicated EVERYWHERE and gets invited to all the best parties! (though you’d think they’d ignore him when he dishes the dirt actually)

Personally I think it’s all because of the Hilton name – people think it’s Paris’ little brother that’s tagging along for the ride!

Some believe that Mario Lavandeira went to far when as Perez Hilton, his alter ego, he announced the death of Fidel Castro - scooping every major news organization in the process and evoking vitriol from Cuba and the State Department.

Is this ethical Blogging? Do you even care? Does it really even matter or is it seen as entertainment?

Some people just don’t get bloggers

Much has been said of late about bloggers recycling content. I see it a different way. As readers we have two choices in consuming our news.

“Either sit quietly and read the newspaper corporate editorials days after the event have passed or get hot-before-the-presses personal commentary from a personal perspective”.

Now granted, not every blogger is a WSJ journo ;-) but then again, not every journalist has the editorial license that a freelance blogger with a yearning to generate a good story has!

Take this article I came across on Blogging the obituaries.

Now that’s breaking news! Blogging the obituaries, offering perspectives on somebody’s life and paying respects (hopefully) from an unconventional angle!
And they say blogging’s dead!

So tell me what you really think!

Ok, so we know what you think about Peapod.com. And we know what you think about BlogKits. (we were holding our breaths on this one – we were hoping for positive reviews – but we knew we were going to get honest opinions both positive and negative, and we weren’t disappointed ;-)

Results were overwhelmingly positive I’m glad to say – and the negative comments were well crafted, constructive and helped us craft our review process even better.

It’s important to us that we’re not perceived as a ‘paid opinion’ but rather as one that offers opportunities for insightful truthful opinion.

Secondly, we’re working on the payment models. I’m happy to report that the awards for best articles each week will stay, and on a case-by-case basis we’re working with clients to develop innovative models to compensate you for writing articles.

Already we’re getting bids ranging from 20c to 50c per click which is 5 times higher than the current market price we’re asking.

Keep an eye out for upcoming review projects for ForexYard, BeckerSurf, Lavalife, Skype, Paypal, FirePay and many others just queuing up for your *honest* opinion!

Time to rally the bloggers – the content revolution is here (ok – i know that’s overly melodramatic but i got carried away, lol)

And… the very first Weekly Best Blog Review Award goes to…

A blogger from the foothills of the mountains, South Carolina, Jenn wins US $100 for her review of Peapod’s delivery service. Congratulations Jenn!

(Imagine roaring applause punctuated by camera flashes illuminating envious glances)

JennJenn’s review points out that the fuel saved by avoiding a car trip to a grocery store combined with the obvious convenience factors of online grocery shopping, more than makes up for the cost of delivery.

I think Jenn’s observation very nicely illustrates one of the reasons why we believe independent blogger reviews can be such a powerful element in the marketing mix.

Original content based on original thought.

In case you don’t know what all this fuss is about, we recently launched, BlogKits Review. Review helps bloggers to earn revenue from their blogging efforts by paying for the traffic generated by their reviews.

Ready to Review? Here’s the lowdown on Beta BlogKits Reviews!

I hinted about it a few weeks ago and here it is!

We’ve unleashed BlogKits Reviews!

BlogKits Reviews

Take a look at www.blogkits.com/review for the lowdown on how you can earn money by reviewing companies and their services.

It’s important to note though, you’re NOT being paid for positive opinion, but rather for an actual review substantiated by fact and experience.

The first company that’s being reviewed has been added. Peapod.com is a home delivery service serving most of the eastern seaboard of the USA. They’re offering a free home delivery coupon for each reviewer. Additionally you’ll earn for any traffic sent from your blog to Peapod on a cost per click basis.

Take a look at the Peapod campaign to find out how to review them.

More of these to follow soon!

We’ve love your feedback and opinion on how to improve our Reviews and BlogKits in general so let me know your thoughts!

Jon

Getting paid to voice your opinion?

We’re always looking at new ways to make more money for bloggers - and though we don’t follow the pay-per-post model where you’re paid for a positive story (in effect) I feel there’s ample room for a ‘Paid-to-Review’ component.

What I’m looking for are BlogKits members to participate in the trials.

You’d be paid a mix of Cost per Review / Impression / CPC / Cost per Sale / Acquisition on what’s written.

You’d have editorial freedom (of course like we’d have it any other way :-) ) on what you post, within reason of course.

You’ll be asked to comment on products / services / sites that are relevant to your blog.

Should you post negative comments they should, just like any story you’d post be backed up with a reason / opinion.

So why do this?

The advertisers we’ve got on board recognize that the content provided by bloggers is of far greater value than just ads on their blog. At the same time - we cannot allow this to influence bloggers or corrupt the blogging values - so adding a section to your site for Reviews & Rants or something similar might be a great way to add content designed to giv your opinion on services or products we ask you to review, add valuable insight for your readers and generate a good revenue stream for you.

Interested?

Let me know!

Jon

Commission for your clicks — They’re here!

Hey guys

As promised, we’ve just finished allocating your commissions for all the clicks generated from the Blogkits ads for the period 1 March 2007 through 15 May 2007. Yes, we heard whispers of people claiming that this was just some kind of marketing hype. But the proof is in the pudding.

Check your stats and you should see a singular sale generated for the “Blogkits Affiliate Services” campaign. The single sale will have a sale value of the amount of clicks you generated at rate of $0.10 per click and a commission allocated for the same amount.
If you are a blogkits affiliate, and you have generated clicks during the mentioned time period, but have somehow not been allocated commissions, please e-mail me at usa@offerforge.com, state your case and I will immediately look into the issue. Please use the subject “Blogkits click commissions - I want my piece of the pie” on these mails.

Keep an eye out for all the new adpools coming your way. I’m putting the finishing touches on a “Dating” adpool and this should be available to you within the next few days.
